Creating and Collaborating on a Google Doc

Uncategorized

Here are step-by-step instructions for students to create and collaborate on a Google Doc using their phones, assuming they are using Google Docs for the first time:

Step 1: Download the Google Docs App

  • If you haven’t already, download the Google Docs app from the App Store (for iPhone users) or Google Play Store (for Android users).
  • Once installed, open the app.

Step 2: Sign In to Google Docs

  • If you are not already signed into your Google account on your phone, the app will prompt you to sign in.
  • Enter your Google account email and password.

Step 3: Create a New Document

  • Once you’re in the Google Docs app, look for a + symbol, usually found at the bottom right of the screen.
  • Tap on it and select New Document to create a blank document.

Step 4: Name Your Document

  • At the top of the new document, tap on Untitled document.
  • Enter a name for your document that reflects your group, like “Group 1 – Introduction.”

Step 5: Share the Document

  • Tap on the three dots in the upper right corner of the screen.
  • Select Share & export.
  • Choose Share.
  • Add the email addresses of your group members and set their permission to Editor so they can make changes.
  • Tap Send.

Step 6: Collaborate on the Document

  • Instruct your group members to open the shared document from their Google Docs app or through the link in the email they receive.
  • Each member should add their information in the document:
  • Start by typing your name.
  • Enter your department below your name.
  • Add your roll number.
  • List the names of the 2 apps you use every day.

Step 7: Save and Close the Document

  • Google Docs automatically saves your document as you type.
  • Once all members have added their information, simply close the app or navigate away from the document.

Tips for Editing and Viewing:

  • To edit a specific part of the document, just tap on the area you want to edit and start typing.
  • Zoom in or out by pinching the screen with two fingers.

Remember, since this is a collaborative document, any changes made by one member will be visible to all members in real-time. This task is a great way to familiarize yourself with basic digital collaboration tools.
